Where Can I Buy Yarn, etc in Prague?
July 2nd, 2006I’ve gotten a few emails asking where to buy yarn, etc, in Prague, so I’ll just post my response here for reference:
As for knitting stores…
The first place is MarLen - they have BEAUTIFUL yarn there and it’s everyone’s favorite place. They also sell fabrics, etc. The address is:
MarLen Yarns
Karoliny Svetle 12, Praha 1Take tram 22 or 23 to Narodni Trida or Narodni Divadlo. If you get off at Narodni Trida, get off the tram and walk a few feet to the intersection, the main street (Narodni). (Basically, go in the direction the tram was going.) Turn left (still following the tram you just got off) and stay on the right side of the street. You’ll pass a KFC and a bunch of stores… walk until you get to a small side street (there’s probably still scaffolding there and it might look like it’s blocked off, but you can still walk down it) and turn onto that street. That’s Karoliny Svetle. Walk down the side street - you’ll get to where it curves around or goes off to the right. Take it off to the right. You’ll see the shop as you come up on it - lots of bright colors and knitted things hanging outside and on the door. It’s only open during the week until around 5 or so.
OR take the tram one stop further, to Narodni Divadlo. Get off the tram and walk back towards the direction of Narodni Trida. Then follow the same directions, except Karoliny Svetle will be on your right. From either tram stop, it’s less than a 5 minute walk.
Then there’s Kotva, which is like a big department store. I don’t like it so much, but the other girls get yarn there occasionally. And they have sewing supplies, buttons and all that stuff. Kotva is at Namesti Republiky - if you take the metro (yellow line) to Nam. Republiky and go out the exit for “Na Prikope” you’ll come out on the main road (Revolucni). Go right (do you know where Roxy is? It’s near there) and you can’t miss it. It’s a big store with a huuuuuge plasma/tv screen with advertising out front. The yarn is on the 2nd floor, I think.
And there’s also TESCO, but I’m not a fan of TESCO. But they do have needles and yarn, etc. That’s right at Narodni Trida.
